About Us

The Gaelic publisher CLÀR was founded in 1996 with the main aim to publish new books with an emphasis on original Gaelic writing.

CLAR has now published more than 80 books. We have published writing from over 100 Gaelic authors and, of course, this continues to grow.

CLAR is a voluntary organisation and we are trying to bring all kinds of writing to our readers. We have published many genres: fiction, other prose, poetry, the STEALL magazine, drama, information, folklore, sports and the occasional children’s book. In conjunction with Comhairle nan Leabhraichean, we published more than 30 books as part of the ‘Ùr-sgeul’ series.
